We have to take one of those skinfold measurment things for my Nutrition class next week Tuesday. I'm pretty slim, but I'm composed almost entirely of fat. It's really sad, and I'm going to be embarrassed when we have to do it, haha. This is an Exercise Science class, which means my classmates are all in-shape athletes, boo. I'm actually considering working out now...

On another (but maybe related) note: I love Lotte 小梅 candy.

Where did the sun come from???

Also, I hate seeing little middle schoolers shopping for thongs. Gross.

I woke up at 5am this morning to go see the sunrise (we didn't leave until 6am, but I take a long time to get ready) out at Diamond Head in Waikiki. It was really pretty! There weren't as many Japanese tourists doing 初日の出 this year, it seems. Sucks for them; they really missed out!

Ah, so nice. I also saw a pod of whales and a bunch of surfers doing dawn patrol :D

P.S. Sorry I'm stretching your friend page out!

I just finished registering for classes, yay! I'm taking:

The Science of Nutrition: Hopefully a very easy class where the toughest thing I'll have to do is keep a food journal (I used to, but it was more harmful than helpful) and stay away from the jocks.
Imaginative Writing: Poetry: I'm not sure as to whether I'll actually have time to write next semester, but I like the teacher, and I think she likes my writing, so hopefully I won't have to drop it :{
Evolutionary Biology: FINALLY. A bio class without a lab. I'm so happy I might cry.
Microbiology: I dunno. I guess we're looking at germs and stuff? Ugh, I'm such a ditz.
Bio Colloquium: Is it really only one day a week?

If you're still in school, what're you taking next semester?

Shark Head

This weekend Ko and I went up to Washington for a kendo tournament. Before starting the long drive up, we decided to replace his stereo system, which, unfortunately, had been stolen a week or two earlier. The speakers in his car are pretty feeble, anyway, so we bought some battery-powered Sony speakers and (blue + duct) taped them into the spot where his stereo had been. Ghetto, but effective, haha. After connecting the speakers to his iPhone we set off.

I always dislike the drive up to Olympia (where Ko's mom lives) because it takes forever (at least, it does when you're from Hawaii and nothing is more than 30 minutes away). Luckily, he had downloaded the Hichhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series in audio book format to his phone the night before. Having only seen the movie prior to this, I didn't really know what to expect, but let me tell you, Douglas Adams, was brilliant. The story is compelling, the writing humorous, and listening to the author himself narrate was really nice. If you guys haven't read/listened to HHGG, I would definitely suggest doing so. It's very entertaining, even if you don't like sci-fi.

I know everyone's seen this, but...

... this is possibly the worst placement of an opening/entrance in inflatable bouncer history.

The Only Yak In Batesville, Virginia
by Oni Buchanan

At first I spent hours gazing at the black and white horse
in the farthest pasture. He was so far away,
so tiny between the fence slats, and even then I knew
all he cared about was his mane and that his tail
was properly braided. He never so much as galloped
in my direction. Even the flies that edged
his beautiful eyes never flew into my wool
or landed on my nose. The love affair

was over before it began. I started to dream
of a dry cistern in the middle of the forest
and dry leaves where the other yaks could play
until leaves stuck out of their hair and they looked
like shrubs. In my dream they lived
in the cistern and each morning looked out
with periscopes before scrambling up the concrete walls
to search in the forest for sprouting trees.

In winter I realized that for the other yaks
it was fall all year round, and that it had to be fall,
because otherwise they couldn't roll in the leaves
to look like shrubs, and there had to be a cistern,
because otherwise they couldn't huddle in the pitch black,
and I knew then that I had forgotten
what a yak looks like, though I am a yak,
and I knew then that I had been away for a long time.

- Bold all of the following TV shows of which you've seen 3 or more episodes.
- Italicize a show if you're positive you've seen every episode.
- * Asterisk * if you have at least one full season on tape or DVD
- If you want, add up to 3 additional shows (keep the list in alphabetical order).

It's time for an intervention.

I'm addicted to Flamin' Hot Cheetos D: I honestly can't stop eating them. My fingers are stained a crazy neon red and my taste buds are fried, but I still want more. Oh, the heat is heavenly.
